My brother was a music journo so I’ve been lucky enough to be his +1 at over 450 gigs and I can still remember the buzz around them when they were literally 17/18 and I first heard Bigger Boys, Flur Ad, Dancefloor etc live. I’m actually more of a hiphop head but AM are part of a handful of bands that have stayed on my playlists for the last 15/20 years. I totally agree, I’m mid 40’s and AM came just at the right time for me! We’d had the Britpop of the 90’s - which was still going on, but AM was something new and fresh - but still familiar in a way, and forced everyone in the music scene to sit up and take notice! Their popularity needs to come down so they can play smaller venues with less expectation they'd be much better suited to it. Maybe solo with a name change is the only way it's gunna happen. He has just made a whole album and wrote lyrics telling everyone that's what they want. No matter how much Alex tries to change it. Which they have been trying to do but they just can't shake their reputation which they built up at the beginning. They need to distance themselves from the casuals and become a band for the fans.

I really do think they now need to knock festivals on the head. Its a tad annoying the reaction to the setlist, if Mardy bum and florescent hadn't been played at any of their own shows like normal and had just been played at Glastonbury everyone would be saying how amazing the setlist was. In retrospect Glastonbury didn't need to happen their own shows were enough. While Sheffield was absolutely superb I just think this tour has been far to big with to many shows to be honest. Their style just doesn't land with casual/non fans any longer. They were never gunna change it up for 1 show. Its been a massive tour Glastonbury placed right in the heart of it.
